Dry Eye Treatment

Dry, irritated eyes can affect your comfort, vision, and daily activities. At Los Alamitos Optometry, we provide personalized dry eye treatment to help address the underlying causes of discomfort and improve tear film health. We proudly serve patients in Los Alamitos, Seal Beach, Cypress, and surrounding areas, offering advanced treatment options, including OptiLight IPL and MiBo Thermoflo.

What Causes Dry Eye?

Dry eye occurs when your eyes do not produce enough tears or when your tears evaporate too quickly. One common cause is meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), which affects the oil-producing glands along your eyelids. When these glands become blocked or stop functioning properly, tears evaporate faster, leading to irritation and discomfort.

Common symptoms of dry eye include:

  • Burning, stinging, or itchy eyes

  • Redness and irritation

  • Blurry or fluctuating vision

  • A gritty or sandy sensation

  • Excessive watering or tearing

  • Discomfort when wearing contact lenses

If you experience these symptoms regularly, a comprehensive dry eye evaluation can help identify the cause and determine the most appropriate treatment.

Advanced Dry Eye Treatment With OptiLight IPL

At Los Alamitos Optometry, we offer OptiLight Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy, an FDA-approved treatment designed to manage signs and symptoms of dry eye disease associated with meibomian gland dysfunction.

OptiLight uses precise pulses of light applied to the skin around the eyes to help reduce inflammation and improve meibomian gland function. By addressing inflammation associated with MGD, this treatment can help support a healthier, more stable tear film.

OptiLight treatments are generally quick and performed in-office. A series of sessions may be recommended depending on your condition and response to treatment. Our eye doctors will evaluate your symptoms and eye health to determine whether OptiLight is appropriate for you.

MiBo Thermoflo for Eye Rejuvenation

We also offer MiBo Thermoflo, a therapeutic warming treatment designed to support healthier meibomian gland function and improve tear quality. MiBo Thermoflo uses controlled heat applied externally to the eyelids to help soften thickened oils within the meibomian glands. This gentle treatment encourages healthier oil flow, helping reduce excessive tear evaporation and improve eye comfort.

MiBo Thermoflo may be recommended as part of an individualized dry eye management plan, particularly for patients experiencing symptoms related to blocked or poorly functioning oil glands.

Personalized Dry Eye Evaluations

Effective dry eye treatment begins with understanding what's causing your symptoms. At our Los Alamitos office, we assess your tear film, eyelid health, and meibomian gland function to develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Depending on your evaluation, we may recommend OptiLight IPL, MiBo Thermoflo, lubricating eye drops, eyelid hygiene, or other supportive therapies. Our goal is to manage the underlying factors contributing to dry eye while helping you maintain comfortable, healthy vision.
